There are books which keep reappearing on our list of recommended books but some of them turn out to be a bore and give us some major trust issues!!

Well let me recommend you a list of books which are classic and will keep you wanting more.

1) Jane Eyre

Author- Charlotte Bronte

ree

Story of Jane Eyre, an orphan girl who is sent to Lowood, which in an awful institute for girls and there she grows to adulthood becoming a teacher at the same place, finally leaving it to accept a governess job at this solitary, creepy place called Thornfield Hall to a little french girl Adele. She meets the owner of the place Mr. Rochester who is a well traveled and sort of a rude person. They fall for each other but fate had other plans for them.

Personally my favorite, Jane is smart, stable and mature for her age, and a feminist for a Victorian Era who wants to see the world and experience it on her account.

2) Gone with the Wind

Author- Margaret Mitchell

ree

Set in the times of American Civil War, this book takes you along the journey of Scarlet O'Hara who is a Southern teenager belle worrying about dresses and balls and marrying the love of her life to a survivor and a caretaker and a person who would go to any extent to sustain and pull through. She is a nasty, self centered and a stubborn character who just wouldn't give up, even when war has destroyed her glorious planned life, she picks up herself and keeps going on.

She is such a nerve racking character that you almost hate her but silently you find yourself rooting of her.

3) Wuthering Heights

Author- Emily Bronte

ree

This is a gothic novel, a narrative of revenge more than love, whose characters you'll end up despising however really admiring the story. It revolves around two generations living in the same neighborhood. There are two main characters Heathcliff an orphan and Catherine whose father brings Heathcliff to their home, they are childhood sweethearts but they grow apart as Catherine begins to realize Heathcliff is below her social circle and marries another established man, and Heathcliff who was mistreated by Catherine's elder brother Hindley leaves the neighborhood only to return years later to avenge his insult and destroys the former's peace. Years later the children of these family are living with the consequences of the hatred their parents had for one another.

This is not for everyone and not everyone likes it but definitely worth a try, such an amazing story of envy, resentment and has such an eerie atmosphere. It has a supernatural element as well.

4) Dracula

Author- Bram Stoker

ree

Another gothic novel which brings a mythical creature, a vampire to the forefront of the story, whose cost of existence is death to a human. This begins with Jonathan Harker, a lawyer from London who travels to Transylvania to make a property deal with a Count living there and things start to tumble down from there.

The atmosphere of the book just weighs on you, its dark, its heavy and the author took his time to built in the eerie ambiance which creeps in slowly and chills you to the bones. It is not sugarcoated and presents the sinful creature as it is, a blood sucking monster.

5) To Kill a Mockingbird

Author- Harper Lee

ree

To kill a mockingbird is about Atticus Finch a widowed father of two kids and a lawyer from Alabama who is defending a black man accused of raping a white woman. This is a narration from his youngest child Jean 'Scout' and slowly builds up to the trial.

This book from the eyes an innocent figuring out between right and wrong, moral believes is a masterpiece and deals with such hard topic of racism and rape with such sensitivity, its amazing.

6) The Great Gatsby

Author- F. Scott Fitzgerald

ree

The narrator Nick Carraway tells the story of his rich, mysterious neighbour Jay Gatsby who throws these lavish parties at his mansion which entire town attends but he himself is never seen. Jay is in love with Nick's married cousin Daisy.

This love of Jay and Daisy affects life of all the people around moreover the way it ends is pretty interesting. What excites the reader further more is how the pieces fall into place and in the end when you see the complete picture, you exactly know what led to what.

Another thing to appreciate is the ambiance of the story, Jazz era, the lavish 20's and the never ending parties and glamour.

7) Little Women

Author- Louisa May Alcott

ree

This is a story of a family's changing dynamics, their ordinary lives and daily struggles to meet the end of their days, their efforts to endure the hardships. Set in the era of Civil War, the characters March sisters grow closer in their attempt to sustain and survive and they evolve as strong headed and rebellious people.

None of the characters are flawless making it realistic to belief. Very aspired and creative characters .

8) Pride and Prejudice

Author- Jane Austen

ree

Another of Jane Austen's classic romance, this book has a more logical romance than a lot of books out there, Elizabeth 'Lizzy' is the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet, the owners of Longbourne estate, and Mrs Bennet's only wish is to arrange good marriages for all her five daughters, which seems possible when a new ,wealthy tenant Mr. Bingley moves into the neighborhood and is accompanied by his cold, distant friend Mr. Darcy, Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy do not have great first impressions of each other, and start on the wrong foot, Mr. Darcy's Pride and Elizabeth's Prejudice keeps them away but slowly understanding and realizing how the other person is, they fall for each other.

There are a lot of different characters which keeps the story interesting and funny and sensible, challenging the social norms of that century, ridiculing the biased society, its amazing how the author narrates a romantic story and questions the community at the same time.
